General Information

School Counselors

Support from the Counseling Department

Every student has a counselor who is available to help choose the right courses to meet educational and career interests and needs. Our school counselors are eager to help students choose the right courses and enable their success. Students have the opportunity to meet with their counselor to review their post-secondary plans, academic progress to date, graduation requirements and planned schedules for the upcoming school year.

Students have opportunities to make appointments to meet with their counselors once the high school has had its scheduling day and the student has returned their signed course selection sheet.

Parents should be involved in the planning process, and that’s why it is very important for parents to review and sign their child’s course selection sheet every year. Parents are always welcome to attend their child’s annual review meeting. If parents wish to attend these meetings, the student should be sure to schedule their appointment with a counselor at a date and time when the parent is available.

When selecting courses each year, students should be sure to review the prerequisites to ensure they meet the established criteria.

Graduation Requirements

To graduate from Fonda-Fultonville High School, students must fulfill specific course and examination requirements based on the type of diploma they are pursuing.

In keeping with state and district standards, the high school offers four possible diplomas: Local, New York Regents, New York Advanced Regents, and the prestigious FFCS Comprehensive District Diploma (CDD). Graduates who earn the CDD achieve all of the Advanced Regents diploma requirements and additionally complete 300 hours of community service, plus extra math and science requirements. All students are expected to challenge themselves and are required to work toward a Regents diploma or better.

  • View the Graduation Requirements page to see detailed information about diploma types and related course and examination requirements.

College Credit Opportunities

Get a head start on your college career and add prestige to your admissions applications by receiving college credits while still attending high school.  One of the most important benefits of having college credit is that during the college application process, admissions officers look favorably on a student who has already completed college-level courses.

All colleges and universities establish their own policies for accepting credits. It is important for students to check with their prospective colleges/universities as to whether or not the credit is accepted.

College in High School Program (CHS)

A collaboration between FFCS and Fulton-Montgomery Community College allows students to enroll in certain courses at FFCS that earn both high school credits as well as college credits. College in the High School courses are offered for nearly every academic department at FFCS, as well as distance learning courses.

Students who successfully complete the course and pay tuition will have a number of college credit hours to add to their resumes. Students who enroll in College in the High School courses pay less than the regular tuition rate at FMCC — the cost is usually one-third the regular tuition rate. Many times other colleges will accept these credits.
