In December of last year, the district shared news about a New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) program that Fonda-Fultonville secured placement in to improve communication and training, and to provide shared experiences for teaching assistants and classroom aides.
That effort continues with combined training and outreach from the President of the United Employees Assoc. (UEA), Mentoring Coordinator Mrs. Cimmino, and the Fonda-Fultonville Teachers Association Mentoring Coordinator Mrs. Waters. Both unions are working to engage and train new staff in areas involving classroom management, Individual Education Plans (IEP’s), along with best practices involving long-tenured teachers, and more.
“We’re combining the knowledge of experienced teachers with our new instructional support employees to not only share information to be their best in the classroom but also build a culture of teaching professionalism that benefits our students,” shared President of the United Employees Assoc. (UEA) and Mentoring Coordinator Mrs. Cimmino.
The joint training now combines experience and teaching expertise to engage with teaching assistants and classroom aides to equip them with information related to their roles, offering professional mentorship, while allowing questions and feedback to ensure the district’s onboarding process moves forward efficiently.
“The purpose of the seminars and mentorship of both groups is to ensure we are all on the same page to deliver success in the classroom,” said Fonda-Fultonville Teachers Assoc. Mentoring Coordinator Mrs. Waters. “By encouraging all of our support staff to work together, we are fostering a sense of teamwork and working hard together to best serve our students. Our district has a strong legacy of academic success and this partnership will ensure that continues.”
