FFCS Fall Athletics Review

What more can we say about the incredible fall athletic season achievements for our FFCS student-athletes this year? We had state championship runs for cross country and football! We had exciting sectional play, charitable contributions, and always showcased the competitive spirit that FFCS is well-known for in competition. For this past fall season, we are sharing the highlights directly from our coaches to your smartphone, laptop, or desktop computer. We hope you enjoy it, and thank you to our student-athletes, coaches, and parents/caregivers for giving us a great fall season to remember!

The Girls Cross Country team had yet another successful season. Led by seniors Isabella Miller, Caroline Young, and Emerson Fuller, the girls’ team finished the dual meet season undefeated for the second consecutive year. That success continued into the WAC Championship meet where they were able to defend their team title from a season ago. All three seniors, and newcomer Alexandra Pelaez, earned WAC All-Star recognition with their top ten finishes at the league meet. Additionally, Isabella Miller’s seventh-place finish at the sectional meet earned her a trip to the New York State Championships. She represented her team well with a 39th-place finish in the Class C race. Isabella Miller was selected as the Sportsmanship Award winner from Section II Class C at the New York State meet.

The Boys Cross Country team continued their impressive run with yet another Section II Class C Championship title, punching their ticket to a fourth consecutive New York State Championship meet. Additionally, the boys won the WAC Championship by placing their top seven scorers amongst the top 11 finishers in the race. Led by the individual WAC Champion, Matheu Dettenrieder, the Fonda boys’ team had seven runners total named WAC All-Stars including Ty Sanges, Aiden Butler, Kyran Clark, Brennan Melia, Joseph Susi, and Exavier Garcia. Ty Sanges was selected as the Sportsmanship Award winner from Section II Class C at the New York State meet.

The Lady Braves soccer season ended with a 9-7-2 record. Within the regular season, the Lady Braves were 8-6-2 placing seventh in the WAC league, fourth in the Hudson division. The Lady Braves earned the seventh seed in the Class B sectional bracket- an improvement from last year’s 11th-place finish. The Lady Braves won their first sectional game (there is no clear year when the last time this happened) making their way to the quarters.

The most impressive accomplishment this year for the Lady Braves was raising $1,200 during their Pink Out game to donate to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The Lady Braves wore pink to honor women who have fought and continue to fight their battle with breast cancer. They also honored the following women at their game and made their donation in the names of Victoria Davison Bailey, Sheri Demargstris, Melanie Dowgielewicz, Jess Marotta, and Mary Beth McRedmond.

This year our Varsity cheerleaders took the first step in Game Day Cheerleading! They embraced and had so much fun learning the style of Game Day. We made history by being a part of the first competitive Game Day teams in Section 2. Special note: Six out of our seven athletes have never competed at that cheerleading level before. At our very first competition at the Bison Battle, we won first place in our Class C division because of countless hours dedicated to teamwork and foundation skills! In our second competition, at the Mohon Matchup, we placed third in our Class C division! Along with having our competition season, this year’s team also cheered the varsity football team all the way to states. This year’s team performed their hearts out during timeouts, quarter changes, and halftimes while bringing lots of spirit and crowd engagement! Each athlete: Alexis Soodsma, Illyria Escher, Victoria Rice, Natalie Spetla, Juliana Edgar, Olivia Greco, and Reaynne Johns have brought something special to the team and have overcome so much this season!! The spirit, enthusiasm, and sportsmanship are the best we have seen yet, and looking forward to continuing this into the basketball cheer season.
