Recently, the Fonda-Fultonville FFA Chapter attended the annual Finger Lakes CDE Invitational in Penn Yan, NY on Saturday, March 22. Hosted by the Penn Yan FFA Chapter, the competition was held to prepare students for state competitions in May at the Annual New York State FFA Convention. This year, FFCSD brought 12 students to compete at the invitational with four students placing in the top ten of their contests.

Fonda-Fultonville’s FFA Members, Abby Paraskeva placed first, Sidney Carpenter placed ninth, and Aubrey Teta placed 10th out of 19 contestants in the Food Science and Technology Career Development Event (CDE). This event requires students to have an in-depth understanding of food product development, food presentation and food safety issues. Participants also use their sensory skills to solve problems and make sound decisions.

Fonda-Fultonville’s FFA Member, Austin Groat placed third in the Jr. Tool ID Career Development Event (CDE). This event is designed for contestants to develop the ability to correctly identify the names and uses of a variety of commonly used tools.

Nearly 350+ students from across New York State participated in the invitational, putting their skills to the test in eight hands-on contests: Vet Science, Ag Mechanics, Food Science, Maple, Junior Tool ID, Milk Quality and Products, Floriculture, and Forestry.
