We’re back with another athletic roundup of FFCS student-athletes for the 2024-25 fall season! As always, the Valley Hawks stepped up in their respective sports and the highlights are fantastic. So, without further waiting, here’s the fall sports roundup for the fall season.

As always, thank you to our coaches and volunteers who have made this season possible for our student-athletes.

On to the roundup…

Varsity Football

Another season, another strong showing by our football program! This year, the FFCS football team finished the season 7-3. They improved greatly as the season progressed. Their signature win came in early October against defending Section 2 Class B Champion Ravena, which they won by a score of 21-7. The team finished second in the Class C West Division, earning a home sectional game against Watervliet. The FFCS football program will say goodbye to some highly successful seniors from this graduating class. However, they return a strong nucleus for next season.

Varsity Soccer

The varsity girls’ soccer team ended their season with an overall record of 9-8 and a league record of 5-6. The Valley Hawks ended up second in the rankings for the WAC Red Division and seventh overall. The ladies earned the tenth seed in the Class B bracket sending them on the road to Cairo-Durham. It was a tough loss that ended their 2024 season. The Valley Hawks put up 42 goals this season, an improvement from last season’s 30. In addition, the Valley Hawks also raised $749 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. This year’s donation honored three local family and community members: Rosa Adomoschek, Linda Denton, and Jean Easterly. A fantastic tribute on behalf of this year’s team.

The Fonda-Fultonville varsity volleyball concluded a remarkable season on Nov. 6 in Averill Park, where they competed in the sectional semifinals against Broadalbin-Perth. Leading up to this matchup, the Valley Hawks had an impressive 10-game winning streak! The team finished their season with a league record of 10-2 and an outstanding overall record of 22-6-1. One of the season’s standout moments was the team’s victory at the Mekeel tournament, where they defeated the Mohonasen Warriors in a hard-fought match. This dedicated group of student-athletes looks forward to working together in the off-season, strengthening their skills, and building on their success to return stronger next fall.

This year’s golf team finished the 2024-25 season with a fifth-place finish in the WAC (6-7 record overall). The team hit their stride on the links by placing third in the WAC league tournament. Special recognition goes to Rory McGrattan for qualifying and competing in sectionals at The Fairways of Halfmoon.

Cross Country

The boys’ cross-country team had an outstanding season. They placed in the top three at the EJ Herrmann Invitational, Grout Invitational, and Burnt Hills Invitational. They also won the Fort Plain Invitational. With only one dual meet loss on the season, they were crowned Large School Dual Meet Champions. They claimed another WAC Championship at the league meet on October 29. Aiden Butler, Kyran Clark, Exavier Garcia, Brennan Melita, and Reed Sargalis earned WAC All-Star recognition, reflecting their strong contributions. At Sectionals, the team finished a close second in the Class C race, narrowly missing first place with a score of 46-41 against Schalmont. Kyran Clark qualified for the New York State Championship meet and had a successful finish to his overall season placing 63rd.

The girls’ cross-country team made significant strides this season, showing commendable individual improvement. Four of the six girls on the varsity team were new additions to the varsity squad. Though they placed fifth at the WAC Championship Meet, two runners, Natalie Girard and Alexandra Pelaez, earned WAC All-Star honors for their strong performances. Natalie and Alexandra also represented the team at the Section II Class C Championship, where they finished the season on a high note, improving on their times from earlier races. The future is bright for this team as they bring back several contributors next season. Congratulations to the team for their hard work and progress!

FFCS Cheerleading

Our Varsity cheerleaders had an incredible season, competing in three different Game Day cheer competitions this fall —their second year of Fall competitions! With a growing team, they embraced the Game Day style and had a blast learning new routines. Facing off with 20 other teams from Section 2, they proudly placed fourth or fifth in Class C at each event.

This year, we successfully hosted Fonda’s first-ever cheerleading competition! Alongside competing, our cheerleaders brought non-stop energy to every varsity football game, hyping up the crowd during timeouts, quarter changes, and halftime. They showed amazing spirit, performing countless jumping jacks for each touchdown, and dazzling fans with tumbling skills. These student-athletes worked hard this season, and we couldn’t be prouder of their dedication and team spirit!

In individual events, Harper Huckans placed 19th in the 100 free with a personal record of 1:08. In Scout Huckans individual events, she placed ninth in the 100 fly with a time of 1:09 and eighth in the 100 back with a time of 1:09.
