FFA students impress at agriculture competition

Twelve FFCS students competed in the District 5 Virtual FFA Leadership Development contests this week. Our competitors will advance in seven of the events at the Central Region Substate Contests at the end of the month.

“These FFA members have proved their commitment to the FFA mission of
premiere leadership, personal growth and career success as they have practiced, persevered and grown their leadership abilities through virtual leadership development events over the past week,” agriculture teacher and FFA adviser Sheri Boardman said. “We hope you will help us congratulate these hardworking students who are the future leaders of agriculture, their homes and their communities.”

Employment Skills: Tyler Walton (1st Place) and Marc Tommell Jr. (7th Place)

The FFA Employment Skills Leadership Development Event is designed for FFA members to develop, practice, and demonstrate skills needed for seeking employment in the industry of agriculture. Each part of the event simulates as closely as possible, real-world activities that are used by real world employers.

Jr & Sr Extemporaneous Speaking, Jr: Keira Muselbeck (2nd Place) Sr: Marc Tommell Jr. (6th Place)

The Extemporaneous Public Speaking Leadership Development Event is designed to develop the ability of all FFA members to express themselves on a given subject without having prepared or rehearsed its content in advance. This event gives FFA members an opportunity to formulate their remarks for presentation in a very limited amount of time.

Conduct of Chapter Meeting, 1st Place Team of Emma Charboneau, Jenna Downing, Heather Gulick, Alexis Soodsma, Alyssa Colletti, Adeline Tommell, Rhyan Lewis

Conduct of Chapter Meeting Leadership Development Event is to introduce seventh – tenth grade FFA members to parliamentary procedure as they learn how to conduct efficient meetings and build their communication skills.

Jr Creed Speaking: Jenna Downing (2nd Place), Keira Muselbeck (8th Place)

The purpose of the Creed speaking leadership development event is to develop the public speaking abilities as well as to develop their self-confidence and contribute to their advancement in the FFA degree program.

Jr & Sr Prepared Public Speaking, Jr: Keira Muselbeck (8th Place), Sr: Alyssa Colletti (10th Place)

The Prepared Public Speaking Leadership Development Event is designed to develop agricultural leadership and communication skills by providing an opportunity for students to research and recite a prepared speech about a selected Ag issues of their interest.

Ag Issues Forum, 1st Place Team of Mia Healey, Morgan Knapik, Emma Charboneau

The purpose of the agricultural issues forum is to present a current issue to a public audience in the form of a skit; therefore, professional ethics, standards, and research are considered.
