Each year, the FF Theatrical Company creates new opportunities for students to engage in learning about performance art, while connecting with communities from across the globe. This winter, students in the FF Theatrical Co. had the opportunity to learn from professional actors and actresses as part of the “Broadway Weekends” program. The New York City-based company provides virtual workshops covering a variety of topics and taught by famous members of the theater community. To learn more about their organization, you can visit their website, here.

Our students were able to engage in workshops about improvisation, ensemble singing technique, and physicality and characterization. These workshops provided our students with new skills and ideas that will make them stronger performers. Being able to connect with professionals in the industry was an invaluable experience and our students made the most of it. Our students worked virtually with Hollie Taylor, Emma Kingston, and Sean Patrick Doyle.

As part of virtual workshops, FFCS students are able to learn from different perspectives and audiences, whether it’s fellow actors, directors or students. “I enjoyed the fact that the workshop was an opportunity to act in front of an audience. There are few moments in day-to-day life where I find the opportunity to command an audience, so whenever I do get the opportunity to do so, I exploit it as much as I can,” said FFHS student Tyler Couture. “Whether it be acting, presenting, or just speaking, there’s something about being the center of attention for a crowd of people that excites me, so I’m very grateful that the workshops give me an opportunity to do that.”

As part of this exciting educational opportunity, the FF Theatrical Co. students are utilizing the virtual workshops to sharpen their personal development in the theater and strengthen their ability to prepare for their upcoming musical Once Upon a Mattress, which will take place from March 11-13.
