As any parent or caregiver can understand, having a child who is not feeling well and working to determine what’s happening can be a stressful time. At FFCSD, we are implementing a tele-health program in coordination with Albany Med Health System. The purpose of the new program will allow district nurses to connect with medical professionals virtually to begin the first stages of diagnosing a student(s) illness.
Beginning this spring, Fonda-Fultonville students (pre-K through 12) will have immediate access to full-service virtual medicine visits from the school nurse’s office. Upon consent from a guardian or parent, our district nurses can begin to consult with medical professionals at an urgent care provider to address and treat a variety of health-based concerns. Additionally, parents can join the telemedicine visit remotely and participate in the appointment, providing them full access involving their child’s care.
“Within our district, and throughout the school year, we carefully ensure the safety and well-being of our students,” shares Superintendent of Schools Dr. DeMallie. “Each student can present different symptoms when it comes to an illness, and with the tele-health option, we can offer families an immediate resolution with medical professionals. This marks a win-win for district health providers, as we seek to make sure students are cared for and our school community is healthy.”
How does tele-health work?
As part of this program, Fonda-Fultonville will be equipped with specialized diagnostic devices, allowing our providers to conduct more comprehensive virtual exams—such as viewing the ears and throat—to support more accurate diagnoses and care plans. The tele-health option can also provide Strep tests, along with combo COVID, Flu A, and Flu B tests.
Stay tuned for additional updates as we begin to rollout this program to serve our community.
