Last week, middle school teachers Mr. Carson and Mrs. Linart introduced the first-ever Career Day to help students learn more about employment opportunities and career pathways. Volunteer speakers from the school community included first responders, a forensic investigator, an archaeologist, a Liberty ARC administrator, and a powerlifting/weight-training professional competitor.
The event, a result of Mrs. Linart’s creativity and 20 years of experience teaching at the middle school level, was a hands-on activity to pair students with community volunteers to begin thinking about employment options. Seventh-grade ELA teacher Mr. Carson supported the activity by organizing speakers and coordinating the day’s events.
“I feel the day was excellent in bringing our community together. The students were excited to see the speakers share their skill sets and to begin thinking about their own futures,β shared Mr. Carson. βIt was fun and provided a hands-on experience for students, who were able to begin thinking about their own identity to become a professional one day.β
