The Fonda-Fultonville Jr. FFA Chapter is excited to announce that it has been awarded a $4,550 grant through the National FFA Grants for Growing program. The funding will support the purchase of three hydroponic grow towers, providing Jr. FFA members with new opportunities to explore agriculture, technology, plant science, and sustainable growing practices throughout the school year.
The addition of the hydroponic towers will allow students to grow a variety of fresh produce and flowers indoors, expanding the chapter’s growing season beyond what is possible with traditional outdoor gardens. Students will have the opportunity to experience the complete growing process, from planting and monitoring crops to harvesting and evaluating their results.
Hydroponics is a growing method that allows plants to grow without traditional soil by delivering water and nutrients directly to their root systems. The towers will provide a hands-on way for students to see how technology can be used to address challenges such as limited growing space and seasonal growing restrictions.
Through this project, Jr. FFA members will gain practical experience in plant science, environmental stewardship, data collection, technology, and agricultural production. Students will also be able to connect concepts learned in the classroom to real-world agricultural applications.
The hydroponic towers will become a valuable resource for the Fonda-Fultonville Jr. FFA Chapter and its members for years to come. The project will not only provide students with the opportunity to grow throughout the school year but will also help demonstrate the many ways agriculture continues to evolve through innovation and technology.
