FFHS student wins Montgomery County Suicide Prevention Task Force video contest

Earlier this week, FFHS freshman Stephanie Calkins was recognized by the Montgomery County Suicide Prevention Task Force for her winning video submission that highlighted the importance of mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Her video, titled “Transgender Mental Health,” was selected out of the numerous entries from area schools that participated in the countywide contest.

As part of her winning this competition, Ms. Calkins was presented with a 40-inch flat-screen television and a certificate from the Montgomery County Suicide Prevention Task Force to recognize her achievement.

“The Montgomery County Suicide Prevention Task Force focuses on providing education on Mental Health and Suicide Awareness in our schools and our community,” said Montgomery County Mental Health Education Coordinator Maria Mancini.  “Our hope is that as a community, we can all come together to offer as much education and support as possible, play a positive role in the future of our youth , decrease the stigma and labeling associated with mental illness and reduce the number of suicides in our community. Bringing this contest to our schools was just one of many ways for our youth to get involved in this initiative.”
