Each year, communities search for ways to raise awareness for local charitable groups and organizations to support cancer research. At FFCSD, that endeavor is spearheaded by the Yellow Roses. This group of middle and high school female students supports that effort by selling ribbons for Pink Day, which falls on Friday, October 22. The proceeds go directly to New York Oncology Hematology to strengthen their mission in assisting individuals and families with the fight against cancer.

The group is led by Ms. Thompson in middle school and by Ms. Sullivan at FFHS. The Yellow Roses program is established to support the empowerment of women and allows for students to establish goals and participate in events to engage our FFCSD community.

“The Yellow Roses is a special group of students that works together to make change in our school community, especially in the middle and high school buildings,” said FFMS Yellow Roses Advisor Ms. Thompson. “This month is an especially important time of the year to support breast cancer research and provide those in need with encouragement and funding for important campaigns. We hope that our district supports this special fundraising approach and that it continues the great work being performed by our students to help others in need.”

How do you purchase a ribbon for Pink Day? It’s simple and here’s how: FFCSD students can donate before homeroom when the Yellow Roses members come around to homerooms. Staff members will find a collection can and ribbons available in the high school and middle school offices. Ribbons cost $1.00, but all donations will be accepted.
