Fonda-Fultonville Middle School Math teacher Mrs. Betts was selected as a New York State Master Teacher.

This month, Fonda-Fultonville Middle School Math teacher Mrs. Betts was selected as a New York State Master Teacher. Betts joins other Master Teachers in a statewide network of dedicated educators proficient in science, technology, computer science, robotics, coding, engineering, math, and integrated STEM courses across grades K-12, including Advanced Placement, Honors, and Regents levels.

“My goal with students is not only to strengthen their math skills and appreciation for math, but also foster an environment for students to develop logic skills and become problem solvers,” shared F-F Middle School seventh and eighth grade Math teacher Mrs. Betts.

As part of this designation, Betts will join the Mohawk Valley cohort based at the State University of New York at Oneonta. The NYS Master Teacher program allows its members to continue their education-based work to assist students, colleagues, and their school community. The goal is  to have students thrive in their curriculum, provide mentorship for fellow teachers and to participate in the grant application process. Additionally, the program fosters skills so that master teachers can take on leadership roles in New York State STEM professional associations and lead professional development workshops for regional and statewide educator conferences.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have teachers in our district receive opportunities to lead, grow, and shape our student’s interest in learning,” shared Superintendent of School Dr. DeMallie. “This program will continue to add to Mrs. Betts’ teaching portfolio, and allow her to share her experiences with our faculty to keep our academic excellence moving forward at Fonda-Fultonville.”
