Over the past several years, distance learning and the sharing of resources between districts have grown to allow today’s students to access programs not readily available in their district. Currently, F-F High School students are engaged in a distance learning program in partnership with the Greater Amsterdam School District. Students are participating in the SUNY-FMCC course Computer Science I. In this class, students learn the fundamentals of computer problem-solving and programming. The result for students is to analyze algorithms, organize data structures, and be proficient in using computer programming for coding.
In addition, participating in distance learning provides students with the skill sets to be successful in experiencing a trade school or a two- and four-year college environment. At FFCS, we are building partnerships with regional schools to allow students to access programs that fit their needs or interests. Students can identify programs and connect with their guidance department to arrange access to select programs from partnering regional districts. From FFA to science programs and beyond – the opportunity to learn and become more involved in their career pathway is a huge opportunity for today’s students.
