2022 FFCS Spring Athletic Season Review

FFCS Boys and Girls Outdoor Track Field teams brought the competitive fire this season!

Each year, we get to experience FFHS student-athletes as they seek to prove themselves in their respective sports, while proudly representing the Fonda-Fultonville Central School District. This year continues with Fonda-Fultonville making a strong impact in section competition. From softball to baseball to track and field, we have something for everyone this spring season! As always, we dug deep into the archives with the coaches to find out the inside scoop on this year’s special achievements.

(Editor’s Note: Due to the size of some of our live action images, they have been shared on the district’s Facebook page which is located here.)

Here’s all the good news fit for the 2022 Spring Athletic Season:

Boys and Girls Outdoor Track and Field

Championships keep raining down for the district’s Boys and Girls Outdoor Track Field teams. For 2022, both teams were named 2022 Western Athletic Conference Champions. Not surprisingly, both teams had an undefeated dual meet record of 8-0.

In addition, the Boys Track and Field team were also named 2022 Group 3 sectional Champions, with the Girls Track and Field team placing third in Group 3. A special congratulations goes to FFHS student-athletes who competed at the New York State Public High school Championships taking place at North Syracuse High School from June 10-11, 2022.

Alex Saltsman, Discus & Shot Put
Carter Petersen, Pole vault & 110 High hurdles
Bennett Melita, 3200m Run
Amelia Petersen, 100m Hurdles

In addition, FFCS Track and Field placed a few state champions at the New York State Championships in Syracuse, NY. Alex Saltsman achieved his goal of becoming a state champion in the discus throw and Carter Petersen claimed the title of state champion in the pole vault with a vault of 15’6”. With that vault, he broke his own FFCS school record!

FFCS Lady Braves Softball

To no one’s surprise, the Lady Braves Softball team compiled an overall record of 13-5 (7-1 WAC) and were named Western Athletic Conference Co-Champions. This team had no quit in them and established key victories versus Class A Scotia-Glenville and Class B Section 2 Finalist Glens Falls. The team was named the #4 see in the Class B Section 2 tournament. This year, the team counted on Senior 2B Kaylee Egelston and Senior 1B Marilyn Whitcavitch for their continued leadership for the 2022 season. We wish them well on their future endeavors. Thank you!

Moving forward, the coaches raved about how focused and engaged this group was and how they fought every pitch. They cited the teamwork and connections players had for one another and remarked on how excited they are for next season with their current talent and what can be achieved in 2023.

Here are some special recognitions for this year’s team:

Section 2 All Star: Emma Crahan
1st Team WAC All Star: Kaylee Egelston, Madeline Mott, Kamryn Walton
2nd Team WAC All Star: Marilyn Whitcavitch, Amber Cole, Emma Powers
WAC Honorable Mention: Talor Ferrcucci

FFCS Braves Baseball

The FFCS Braves baseball team had an outstanding season.  This season, the team compiled a 19-2 overall record and were 10-1 in Western Athletic Conference play.  This team never quit and always had each other’s back.  They had some very impressive wins, defeating regional powerhouse teams like Duanesburg, Galway, Broadalbin-Perth (twice), Saratoga Catholic and Schuylerville in the Saratoga Catholic Phil Waring Memorial Tournament. The Braves won the Championship of that tournament.  They also won two sectional games against Hudson and Mechanicville before falling in the Semi-Finals of the Class B Sectional Tournament to Ichabod Crane.  Our four seniors showed great leadership and were instrumental in the success of this team.  They will be greatly missed next season.

Five players were recognized as Western Athletic Conference All-Stars. They are as follows:

Tyler Daus  Sr. Capt.  Co-MVP of the Hudson Division of the Western Athletic Conference

In addition, Derek Duval Sr. Capt., Giovanni DiCaprio Sr. Capt, Zenmatsu Myles Sr. and Jackson Croucher Jr. were all named all-stars in the Hudson Division of the Western Athletic Conference.

Tyler Daus has committed to play baseball at Dominican University next season and Derek Duval has committed to play baseball at Post University as well.  Giovanni DiCaprio will be playing football in college where he will be attending St John Fisher.  Zenmatsu Myles will be attending St. John Fisher where he plans to continue playing baseball. We wish them continued success.

As always, thank you to our student-athletes for representing our district proudly. What a season! #BraveStrong
