Recently, students in Mrs. DiNatale’s AP Bio and Honors Bio classes participated in the March Mammal Madness Bracket Challenge competition. As part of this year’s event, students selected their challengers and then proceeded to fill out competitive brackets for virtual animal battles based on animal adaptations and prowess. March Mammal Madness was established in 2013 by Associate Professor Katie Hinde of Arizona State. You can find additional details and background on the challenge here.

The competition this year mixed fun and competition with some educational-based research between the competitive rounds.

Let’s get to the results from this year’s competition:

  • Congratulations go to this year’s champion, Evelyn Yun, who correctly named the champ and earned herself a first place finish with 97 points. Evelyn celebrated her win with a $20 Amazon card and the Golden Lioness trophy.
  • Congratulations also goes to Matheu Dettenrieder who took second place with 84 points and Jordan Chatwin with a third place finish with 74 points.  Second and third place contestants won a Stewart’s gift card.
  • A special shout out also goes to Kaylee Freeman and Molly Kowalczyk who both correctly named Orca and Lionesses in the Championship Round.

Thanks to all who participated in the March Mammal Madness Challenge (Evelyn Yun, Kaylee Freeman, Molly Kowalczyk, Matheu Dettenrieder, Jordan Chatwin, Brady Melious, Ty Sanges, Owen Lewis, and Gianna DiNatale).
