Code of Conduct: Going Beyond the Minimum, Programs and Policies that Foster an Expansive Approach to Discipline

The District shall provide for ongoing professional development offerings throughout the school year in the skill area of classroom management to support teachers who are identified through the APPR process as“ineffective” or “developing” in the standard area of Learning Environment.

Each school shall have a minimum of one activity, event, or program per quarter that engages parents in their child’s learning and that supports school-community relations.

District schools shall establish programs and models that reinforce students’ positive behavior through the use of, but not limited to, incentives and celebrations of student achievement.

At the secondary level:

  • Each building site shall establish a structure that allows for the democratic expression of student voices, interests, and rights within the guidelines of the Code of Conduct for the purposes of developing students’ skills in self-governments and affirming and celebrating student autonomy, civic mindedness, and academic achievement.
  • Such organizations must abide by the Code of Conduct and must operate to enhance school culture and climate in an effort to reinforce positive student behavior.
  • Principals, teachers, and other school staff within the school building shall have the right to participate, with impartiality, in such organizations to ensure the practicality and legality of student actions.
