Student artwork displayed at NYSSBA conference in Lake Placid

Fourth graders Karina DeMallie and Valeria Italiano Placencia had their unique light painting photographs on display at the New York State School Boards Association’s 98th annual convention in Lake Placid Oct. 12-13. Their work was featured at the convention’s art exhibition that is done in collaboration with the New York State Art Teachers Association.

FFCS was one of 34 school districts represented at the art exhibition, but DeMallie’s and Placencia’s pieces were the only examples of light painting photography.

“Viewers remarked how distinctly different the art work submitted from FFCS was,” their teacher Kathleen Bushek said. “My students and their work are quite remarkable.”

Terry Crowningshield, coordinator of the exhibit, endorsed DeMallie and Placencia for their achievements and encouraged them to continue strive for unique ways to view the world around them.

The students were joined at the reception by their families, Bushek, Superintendent Thomas Ciaccio and Board of Education Vice President Bonnie Couture.
