FMCC college fair to feature 80-plus colleges, 2 evening workshops

Students and their families are invited to attend the Tri-County Counselors Association’s College Fair at Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Wednesday, Sept. 19. The event will be held at the FMCC Physical Education Building.

There are two sessions scheduled from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6 to 7:30 p.m. More than 80 colleges and universities will be represented. There are also two evening workshops scheduled. The descriptions and full list of participating colleges are below.

“Career Opportunities with a Community College Degree” from 6 to 6:45 p.m.

A panel of FM professors and career counselors who will discuss the following topics:

  • How do community college programs prepare students for the work force?
  • What kind of job opportunities are there for graduates of community college programs?
  • What are the benefits of a community college education?
  • What role do internships play in preparing our students for the work force and who are those local employers?
  • What skill gaps are in our area?

“A Parent Perspective of the College Process” from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m.

A panel of local parents will discuss their personal experiences about:

  • What went well and didn’t go well with my child’s transition from high school to college?
  • How did the College in the High School Program impact my child’s college program?
  • How well did the transfer process work from a community college to a four year university?
  • How best to deal with accommodations and student needs at college for a child with an IEP or 504 Plan.
