New Board Member Orientation
A new member is to be afforded the Board’s and the staff’s fullest measures of courtesy and cooperation. Board and staff shall make every feasible effort to assist the new member to become fully informed about the Board’s functions, policies, procedures, and current issues under Board consideration.
1. In the interim between appointment and assuming office, the new member will be invited to attend all meetings and functions of the Board, including executive and work sessions, and is to receive all reports and communications normally sent to Board members.
2. The Superintendent shall supply material pertinent to Board of Education meetings and shall explain their use.
3. The new member is to be provided with copies of all appropriate publications and aids, including the Board Policy Handbook and publications of the state and national school board associations, and a copy of William
J. Hageny’s “Handbook on New York State Education Law.”
4. The incoming member shall be invited to meet with the Superintendent and other administrative personnel to discuss services they perform for the Board.
Additionally, the new member will be required to attend the New Board Member Orientation workshops offered annually by the New York State School Boards Association.
