Legal Qualifications of Voters at School District | Policy 1250

A person shall be entitled to vote at any school meeting for the election of school district officers, and upon all other matters which may be brought before such meeting, who is:

1. A citizen of the United States.
2. Eighteen years of age.
3. A resident within the district for a period of thirty days next preceding the meeting at which the person will be voting.
4. No person shall have the right to register for or vote at any school meeting or election who would not be qualified to register for or vote at any election in accordance with the provisions of Sec. 5-106 of the Election Law. This includes most convicted felons and those adjudged mentally incompetent by a court.

Qualified voters may vote on any question brought before any annual or special school meeting; it is not essential that a person be a taxpayer to vote on propositions for raising money by tax on the district.
