Schnackenberg receives Naval Academy appointment
Senior Alex Schnackenberg recently received an appointment to the
U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis. Military Academy appointments are
earned only by students who demonstrate solid academics, outstanding
participation and performance in both athletic and non-athletic high
school extracurricular activities, and meet the academy's stringent
physical requirements.
Both U.S. Senator Hillary Clinton and Congressman Michael McNulty
nominated Alex. He was ultimately appointed based on Senator
Clinton's nomination.
Throughout his high school career Alex has demonstrated a strong mix of
academics, athletics, and music. He is a National Merit Scholar
nominee, is a member of the cross country and track teams, plays
trombone in the Jazz Band, and is a member of the school Mock Trial
team. He also earned the Boys Scouts of America's highest rank of
Eagle Scout.
"It is rare that a student from our area receives a military academy
appointment," said FFCS Superintendent James D. Hoffman. "This is an
honor for Alex and our entire community."
Alex is the son of Eric and Deborah Schnackenberg of Glen.
