Interesting Economic Fact

Did you know that 3/4 of America's enormous economic vitality is dependent upon YOU...That's right, YOU help make up 3/4 of the country's economic health- not big business and corporations, not military or governmental contracts, YOU.

THE THEME OF THIS YEAR'S CLASS???

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY, MONEY!

All year long, we will connect each unit to money!!  "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire", "Deal or No Deal" and Donald Trump's "The Apprentice" demonstrate that America is truly governed by the quest for power and money (which is called Capitalism).

What's the latest???

DID YOU HEAR THAT A FAMOUS ASTRONAUT, FROM THE U.S. SAYS UFO'S ARE REAL!!!

Mr. Vunk knew that Mrs. Sanges is alien!

"I love this website!!" Mr. Vunk

"I checked out your webpage today as soon as I got home from school. It was everything I imagined it to be and more. I love the pictures, election news, weird facts, and the link to a fun and exciting interactive history jeopardy game! It's one of the best teacher pages I've seen."  Rebecca Kruger- 8th Grade Social Studies Teacher- Mayfield

WHAT IS NEXT AFTER RECONSTRUCTION?

**Industrialization and Progressive Era

Once the nation reunites it then begins the process of creating factories and wealth which is Industrialization.  As the country grows, America creates pollution and poor labor practices.  We need to fix some of these problems during the Progressive Era.

WEIRD/Fun FACTS

In the battle of Gettysburg, 1100 ambulances were in use. The medical director of the Union army boasted that all the wounded were picked up from the field within 12 hours after the battle was over. This was a far cry from the second battle of Bull Run, when many of the wounded were left on the field in the rain, heat, and sun for three or four days.

Fascinating Fact!

Insect-eating bats produce high-pitched clicks to help them navigate. In a remarkable demonstration of rapid fire, some bats can generate two hundred clicks per second. Each click lasts for just one-thousandth of a second, and is followed by a short gap just long enough for the bat to hear the returning echo before the next click is produced.

QUESTION ** MR, VUNK, How can students be successful in the first month of school??

ANSWER :  Social Studies is a class based largely upon vocabulary words.  You can't speak about history without a knowledge of people, places and events. Use the methods that I teach you to learn these vocab words more easily.  Also, homework is the dreaded word; however, it is important! I give homework once or maybe twice a week, so DO IT.  I don't overwhelm you but you need to show respect for that. If you don't do the homework, you will fail.  Homework is 30% of your overall grade.  Since I don't give much homework that 30% will really affect your overall grade.
