Students at Fonda
Fultonville Central School begin taking Spanish in 7th grade.
They cover a variety of topics including geography and where the
Spanish speaking countries are located. Then they continue on
to master: greetings, hobbies, school supplies, classes, telling
time, seasons, sports, food, family, describing
themselves/others, clothing and colors.
In 8th grade, the students
continue with vacationing, weather, the house, chores,
furniture, the city, buildings, transportation, giving and
receiving directions, movies, television shows, food,
restaurants, animals and the environment.

A focus on listening,
reading, writing and speaking (the NYS Learning Standards for
foreign language) is practiced through both years. Also,
culture and the life of Latin Americans are discussed.
Students take the NYS
Spanish Proficiency Exam at the end of 8th grade and may
continue in high school upon passing and earning one credit.
