Welcome to my home page.  To start the year I'm posting some of my general policies and procedures along with some general information about my ELA classroom.

ELA Friday-   Every Friday is known as "ELA Friday" in my classroom.  This is a time that is set aside to practice those strategies that will help my students be successful on the NY State ELA Test in January.  Students will practice reading comprehension strategies, multiple choice strategies, listening skills and writing skills that are designed to help them improve their scores on the ELA test.

Spelling :  I believe that spelling is an essential skill in the ELA classroom and life. Therefore, my students will have weekly spelling lists that usually go along with the unit we are studying that week.  It is my hope that students will use these words in their writing that goes along with the reading.

1.  Every Monday students will receive a list of 10 words that they are responsible for learning.  Every Thursday students will receive a quiz on the list of words.

2.  If there is no school on Monday, students will get the list on Tuesday and take the quiz on Friday.

I hope to post the words on my web page each week, but if I run out of time, students always have the words in their ELA notebooks.  One of the ways you can help your child be successful is to study with them every week.

Finally, I strongly encourage you to help your child edit/revise his/her ELA writings.  Students, let your parents help you as parents are always our most valuable and easily accessible resource.
