Grading
Policy
Homework:
-
Completion grades - Some
homework assignments will be graded based upon effort only.
This means that if you try your best to complete an
assignment, even if you may have been a bit confused, didn't
fully understand the concept, or may have gotten some
questions wrong, you still get a good grade. Homework
is about practice...practice makes perfect, right?
Always do your best and ask for help when you need it,
that's what I'm here for.
-
Number grades - Some
homework assignments will be scored based upon if your
answers to the questions are correct or incorrect. For
these assignments, you will receive a number grade that
reflects the number of questions correct out of the total
number of questions on the assignment or points that an
assignment is worth. This number is then turned into a
percentage out of 100. For example, 48 correct out of
50 questions, or 48/50 = 96%
Quizzes:
- Quizzes are scored in
the same way as number grade homework assignments. The
number of questions on a quiz will always vary. Some
quizzes could have 25 questions some could have 10.
So, always make sure you study!
Unit
Tests:
- Unit tests are scored
in the same way as quizzes. Unit tests, however, are
on a lot more material than quizzes. For example, our
unit test on "The Cell" will be on about six weeks worth of
information. Don't let that scare you because it's
easy to prepare for. If you study a little bit each
night, even after your homework is done, you'll be amazed at
how much you'll remember come game day!
Weighting Scale:
When my computer
calculates your grade for science, it will assign a particular
worth to your homework, quiz, and unit test averages. This
"worth" is a percentage out of 100 and depends on the type of
assignment. See the below list:
- Completion Homework
Average - 10% of overall average
- Number Homework
Average - 20% of overall average
- Quiz Average - 30% of
overall average
- Unit Test Average -
40% of overall average
