District to participate in Education Department weight/health
survey—survey includes only grades K, 2, 4, 7 and 10
As part of a required school health examination, a student is
weighed and his/her height is measured. These numbers are used
to figure out the student’s body mass index or ‘BMI’. The BMI
helps the doctor or nurse know if the student’s weight is in a
healthy range or is too high or too low.
Recent changes to the New York State Education Law require that
BMI and weight status group be included as part of the student’s
school health examination. Fonda-Fultonville Central School
District is taking part in a survey being pilot-tested by the
New York State Department of Health. As part of the survey, we
will be reporting to the New York State Department of Health
information about our students’ weight status groups. Only
summary information is sent. No names and no information about
individual students are sent.
You may choose to have your grade K, 2, 4, 7 or 10 child’s
information excluded from this survey report by completing an
exemption form and returning it to Dr. Constance Spohn,
Director of Special Programs at the address listed on the form.
All exemptions must be submitted by April 10th.

7th Grade Class Council makes bookmarks to purchase books
Stop in Mr. Thompson's social studies room during lunch period
and you'll likely find a busy group of students making
bookmarks. Bookmarks!?! Parents are sending their children to
school to make bookmarks? In this instance, the answer is,
"yes."
Members of the 7th Grade Class Council gathers
in Mr. Thompson's room and hurriedly eat their lunches so they
can get down to the serious business of making American Braves
bookmarks. The group plans to sell the bookmarks and use the
proceeds to purchase school supplies for children in
Afghanistan. (Click

school media center—it's not your same old
library If you graduated from school ten or more
years ago, then chances are that a visit to the
Fonda-Fultonville Middle School media center
will shock you. Yes, you will still find plenty of books, tables, and
chairs, but any resemblance to the library you remember ends
there. Gone is the card catalog—those drawers
filled with index cards listings titles, authors, subjects and
locations of every publication on the library shelves. In their
place you are more likely to find rows of computers and an
online card catalog instead.
The media center has entered the digital age. (Click

Key
Club and Builders Club pitch in to clean up Caughnawaga Cemetery
On November 3rd, the Fonda-Fultonville Kiwanis
“K family" conducted a joint project to clean up the historic
section of the Caughnawaga Cemetery on Cemetery Street in Fonda
for Make A Difference Day. The "K family" was comprised of
members of the Fonda-Fultonville Kiwanis Club, the F-F High
School Key Club and the F-F Middle School Builders Club.
The "K family" spent the afternoon clearing away brush, tree
branches, leaves and litter filling a dump truck and
trailer with the debris. The Key Club provided and planted
perennial Spring bulbs to enhance the appearance of this portion
of the cemetery. This is the ninth year that the K-family joined
together to clear this section of the cemetery to assure that
the monuments and gravesites are kept visible. The headstones
date from the 1760’s through the mid-1800’s. Kiwanis family
participants included a total of 60 members from all three clubs
and parents to complete this community service project. Thank
you to all that participated.
Make A Difference Day is a day for all community service
organizations across the U.S. to do a community project. It's
promoted by USA Weekend magazine, The Points of Light Foundation
and the Volunteer Center National Network.
