The middle school character education program will focus on the six pillars of Character and Learning...

  • Respect
  • Caring
  • Fairness
  • Trustworthiness
  • Responsibility
  • Citizenship

All character traits will be emphasized throughout the year.  However, teams or classes might focus on particular character traits for specific activities each month.

Overview of School Year Character Activities:

  • Motivational Speaker-  First Day of School 5-8 Assembly
  • Students With Character Quarterly Awards
  • Quarterly Principal's Rewards (4)
  • Bullet Board-"STARS"  of the names of the students who were nominated for the quarterly character award.
  • Staying Save on the Internet Assembly-  October
  • National Mix It Up Day at Lunch- November 10th, 2009
  • School WideTrivial Pursuit Competition (March)
  • End of Year Citizenship Assembly (June)
  • Praise Notes- Given by teachers to students and a copy on display
  • Green Slips or Other Forms of Positive Reinforcement Determined by Grade Level Teams
  • Quarterly Reward Activities Organized by Grade Level Teams

Students with Character Award-
Each staff member/team will have the opportunity to nominate students with character at the end of each marking quarter.  30-35 students will be chosen as a "Student With Character" and be invited to participate in a Principal's Reward activity. 

Quarterly Principal's Reward Activities-

1st Quarter-  November 24th-  Principal's Luncheon

2nd Quarter- February 5th-  Breakfast With the Principal

3rd Quarter-  April 23rd-  Make Your Own Sundae With the Principal

4th Quarter- June 11th-  Principal's Barbecue

Traits of Good Character

Perseverance - Perseverance is the willingness to make a continuing, patient effort at getting something accomplished. Related traits are persistence and working hard.

Respect - Respect is the regard for the worth of someone or something. Respect includes respect for oneself, for the rights and dignity of others, for laws and authority and for the environment. Related traits are appreciation, understanding and esteem.

Courage - Courage is the state of being fearless, unafraid and brave. A person with courage is willing to face and deal with anger, trouble or pain. Related traits are bravery and fortitude.

Trustworthiness - Trustworthiness is being deserving of trust. A trustworthy person is honest and can be depended on. Related traits are promise-keeping and reliability. 

Citizenship - Citizenship is the conduct or behavior of a person in relation to the group in which he/she lives. A good citizen is respectful of the rights, duties and privileges of all citizens. Related traits are cooperativeness, fairness and neighborliness.

Fairness - Fairness is the ability to make decisions and judgments that are honest and impartial. A person who is fair is not influenced by self-interest, prejudice or favoritism. Related traits are good sportsmanship and open-mindedness.

Responsibility - Responsibility is being accountable for actions and circumstances that are within a person's control. A responsible person takes care of himself/herself and others and fulfills his/her obligations.

Caring - Caring is an expression of love or regard. A person who is caring shows concern for other people. Related traits are compassion, understanding, empathy, consideration and sympathy.

Honesty - Honesty is being truthful and upright. An honest person does not lie, cheat or steal. Related traits are truthfulness and integrity.

Loyalty - Loyalty is the quality of being faithful to one's country, family, friends, duties or beliefs. A loyal person follows through on hi/her promises and commitments. Related traits are friendship and fidelity.
