 I see, and I remember

I DO, and I understand.  ~ Chinese proverb

       Science News

"What are my kids doing in science?"

K - Observing Changes in Matter - What happens when we mix colors? when we mix salt and water? What happens during evaporation?

1 - Mysteries Under the Microscope

Students will find that everyday items look amazingly different under the microscope - Can that fat, furry caterpillar possibly be a piece of yarn? That's not a  white, spider's web but a piece of paper towel? Also, they will see what happens to salt under the microscope when water is added - where does it go?

2 - What's the Matter With Water?

Students will investigate the properties of water. They will see the water cycle in action (It will actually rain in the classroom! Bring your umbrella!).

3 - Exploring body systems - Circulatory System - Let's start with the heart - What does it look like? What does it do? How does it work with the lungs and the blood? Students role-play circulation in action - They become blood cells traveling around the body, or a body part waiting for oxygen. When is it okay to push someone at school? Well, when you're the heart pushing blood cells, of course!

4 - Investigating matter - Who committed the crime? Solve the mystery of the stolen necklace by investigating evidence from the crime scene. What is the powder that was left behind? What properties does it have? How do we find out? Stay tuned...

PARENTS - Did you or your child find an interesting science picture in a newspaper or magazine? Please encourage your child to bring it in to science and share it with the class!

                  "CHARLIE"

K-4 Students favorite book: Animal Skeletons, by Regina Kahney - a glow-in-the-dark animal skeleton book that the kids love to look at. Great gift!

"Charlie" our classroom chipmunk: Children often ask me how they can get a "Charlie" stuffed animal of their own. You can order "Charlie" by going to the following website  www.soundprints.com (this website requires installation of flash)"Charlie" is listed under Chipmunk at Hollow Tree Lane.

Science Sites for Kids:
