Education

Character Education is
based on the Six Pillars of Learning – respect, caring,
fairness, trustworthiness, responsibility
and citizenship. Every month a different pillar becomes
the theme to which all activities within the school are based.

Some of the character
education activities include the STAR student assembly in which
students are honored for their behavior; the character trees
that decorate the hallways displaying the names of students who
have done something kind; and prize slips handed out on the
school bus when a driver wishes to award positive behavior.
These words are also used
to decorate the elementary school hallways, with each hall
having its own name, such as “Responsibility Road.” Even the
playground has its own name – “Fitness Field.”
School Creed
I believe in myself and I am here to learn.
I am responsible, respectful, caring and kind.
I will do all I can to help myself and others succeed.
I will do my best because everything I do today will shape my tomorrow. |
Throughout the school,
signs bearing the name of the latest pillar are displayed. You
can’t miss them, and they are now being displayed throughout our
community at places like McDonald’s and Stewart’s.
The pillars for each month
are:
- September/October -
Respect
- November/December -
Caring
- January - Fairness
- February -
Trustworthiness
- March and April -
Responsibility
- May and June -
Citizenship
