Ribbon cutting celebrates refurbished
swimming pool
About 25 people turned out for the official ribbon cutting to celebrate
Fonda-Fultonville Central School’s newly renovated swimming pool on Monday,
Sept. 28. Following the brief ceremony, guests enjoyed a brief tour of the
facility.
Board of Education president and former F-F
teacher Rod Simonds acknowledged the many people who had been
involved and reflected on the value of the pool in education.
The newly renovated pool is part of the school district’s EXCEL (Expanding our
Children’s Education and Learning) project. Under the project, contractors:
-
Repaired pool structure and installed a new
liner
-
Replaced or upgraded chlorination, heating,
filtration, and ventilation systems
-
Improved lighting
-
Renovated locker
rooms
-
Installed a wheelchair lift and a
handicapped accessible bathroom
-
Installed approved equipment for competitive
swim meets
According to District Superintendent Dr. James Hoffman, “The
pool was facing structural failure. The concrete had developed serious cracks
that would have rendered the facility unsafe and unusable in as little as five
years.”
Using funds made available under New York’s EXCEL program, the district was able
to remedy the problems and make needed improvements to meet health and
accessibility requirements without impacting local school taxes.
