First and Second Graders Show Their Stuff

Four first and second grader were recently honored at the 10th Annual “Design Your Own Helmet” Contest awards ceremony hosted by St Mary’s Hospital and the Brain Injury Association of New York State. The ceremony was held at St Mary’s Hospital and coincided with March is “Brain Injury Awareness Month.”

The poster contest, which covered three counties, 19 school districts and approximately 2400 children, draws attention to the need to wear a helmet to protect the brain whenever you bike, board, or do anything where you risk falling and hitting your head. Fonda-Fultonville students receiving special recognition were:

  • First Grade: Gracie Kilmartin won First Place.

  • Second Grade: Matthew Blower won First Place; Natalie DeGraaf won Second Place and Rhionah Egelston won an Honorable Mention.

To mark the Tenth Anniversary of the poster contest, Amsterdam Mohawks baseball team president Brian Spagnola, sponsored a special raffle for a bicycle. The Mohawks are part of the New York State Collegiate Baseball League. Rhionah Egelston won the raffle for the new bicycle.

Congratulations!
